Great Personalities".
Omar Khayyam (1048 – 1131) was a Persian poet, philosopher,
mathematician and astronomer. He made great contributions to algebra, proposing a classification and method
for solving cubic equations. The calendar he created is still considered one of the most accurate in the
world. However, Omar Khayyam is best known as a great poet, the author of philosophical poetic works
(quatrains) called rubaiyat. He spent a significant part of his life in Central Asia (Samarkand,
Bukhara), where he created many scientific and literary works
.
Nicolaus Copernicus (1473 – 1543) was a Polish astronomer,
mathematician, mechanic, economist and author of the world's first scientific revolution. This revolution is
characterized by the heliocentric system created by Copernicus, which considers the Sun as the central
celestial body around which the Earth and other planets revolve. The main work of Nicolaus Copernicus was
the essay "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres", in which the heliocentric model of the world was
justified.
Blaise Pascal (1623 – 1662) was a French writer, mathematician,
mechanic, physicist, philosopher and theologian. He is considered to be one of the founders of mathematical
analysis, probability theory and projective geometry. Blaise Pascal is the author of the fundamental law of
hydrostatics and one of the first to create unique examples of calculating machines. The unit of pressure
and stress in the International System of Units (SI) and the Pascal programming language are named in his
honor. The literary work of Blaise Pascal won the admiration of many classics in world literature.
Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 – 1943) was a Russian pianist, composer
and conductor. Drawing on the traditions of various musical schools in Russian music, Rachmaninoff created
his own style. As a composer, he enriched the tonal palette of Russian and world music with motifs from the
ancient Russian Znamenny Chant. As a pianist, Sergei Rachmaninoff became a benchmark for many generations of
performers around the world. His works continue to have a significant influence on the development of
contemporary musical art.
For this series, KEP also issues four postcards, which are used to
